This is a two-year associate degree training program at Illinois Central College with a goal of becoming a Caterpillar Dealership Service Technician at Whayne Supply Company Selected candidates will be sponsored in this Associate’s in Applied Science degree program that incorporates paid internships*. The program is referred to as the Caterpillar "ThinkBIG" Dealer Technician Training Program.
This program combines classroom lecture and state-of-the-art labs with real-world experience through paid internships at a Whayne location. In class, students learn about engine fundamentals, machine hydraulics, Caterpillar fuel systems, machine electrical systems, transmissions and torque converters, undercarriage/final drives and more. During the two year program sponsored students alternate between going to classes (5 eight-week sessions) at Illinois Central College (East Peoria, IL) and working alongside experienced technicians during paid structured internships (4 eight-week sessions) in our dealership service facilities to experience their future career first-hand.
New classes start each year (Fall Semester beginning in late August of each year).
Applications are due by Feb. 1st of each year for consideration of sponsorship in the next ThinkBIG class starting the following Fall Semester.
Sponsorships are based upon past academic achievements, character excellence, and required test results.
Whayne Supply Company offers tuition assistance (amount based upon GPA earned during a student's enrollment in the program) and assistance with required hand tools (purchase or loan programs available).
