Purchasing Specialist


Responsible for the procurement of maintenance, repair and operational items, and repetitive consumables to maintain company operations. Provide oversight for office supplies and all stock service and parts department supplies. Evaluate new vendors and products to ensure high quality at the best possible price. Analyze and prepare purchasing reports as needed.



  1. High School Diploma or equivalent
  2. Minimum of two years’ experience as a Buyer
  3. Working knowledge of Caterpillar Dealer Parts and Service operations or Supply Chain
  4. Knowledge of inventory/purchasing software
  5. Excellent interpersonal skills
  6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  7. Strong attention to detail
  8. Good working knowledge of computers, spreadsheets and word processing programs
  9. Highly self-directed
  10. Willingness to learn


  1. Analyze daily suggested stock order report to maintain inventory levels of approved shop supplies at branch operations as needed
  2. Review purchase orders and stock backorders with receiving department to ensure timely delivery of all orders
  3. Monitor shop supply cabinets at branches to ensure that the correct supplies are maintained while minimizing duplication of stocked items
  4. Administer office supplies and select commodity procurement program
  5. Evaluate existing and potential stock supplies and drive service and purchasing efficiencies where possible
  6. Review invoices for negotiated price  and delivery compliance
  7. Work with Commodity Experts to maintain approved item lists
  8. Manage ancillary purchasing programs
  9. Participate in vendor negotiations as needed
  10. Maintain a high degree of discretion in handling confidential/sensitive information and exercise initiative in all assigned areas, High integrity and accountability standards
  11. Perform other duties as necessary and assigned
